ESL Conversation about the Past

Samantha: Look at this old picture book I found Tony.

Tony: Wow, that was ages ago, wasn’t it?

Samantha: Yes, but I remember it like it was yesterday.

Tony: This was in Chocodamia Park, right?

Samantha: (Laugh) Yes, we were still in university. You look so young in this picture.

Tony: Yes, I was in the best shape of my life back then. I used to work out every day.

Samantha: Yeah, right. You went out with your friends and partied every weekend.

Tony: That’s not totally true. I mean sure we drank sometimes, but we all played soccer and studied hard. We were inseparable back then.

Samantha: Yes, you sure were. We couldn’t go out on a date without one of your friends coming along.

Tony: Those were the good old days.

Samantha: What do you mean by that?

Tony: I didn’t mean it like that. What I meant was that things were very different back then.

Samantha: Go ahead.

Tony: There were no obligations. We didn’t have to be anywhere, and we didn’t have to worry about paying any bills.

Samantha: Yes, I kind of see your point, I guess.

Tony: Everything was a breeze. It was really stress free.

Samantha: Yes, I guess it was all pretty straightforward in those days, wasn’t it?
