ESL Conversation on Telling a Story in the Past Simple

Joey: Hey Tony!

Tony: That car has seen better days, hasn’t it?

Joey: It sure has. It’s a lemon. I think it’s time to scrap it. I have poured a lot of money into it.

Tony: You sure have. I can’t believe how many times it’s broken down.

Joey: You aren’t lying. It’s been a fun ride along the way though, hasn’t it?

Tony: It’s a real pity. It really brings back some great memories.
Do you remember that time that we took a road trip to the beach with all the guys?

Joey: Yes, how can I forget. What a trip! First Billy fell asleep and got really terrible sunburn on his legs.

Tony: That was just the first day. Then you broke your foot while playing soccer.

Joey: That really was a disaster, wasn’t it?

Tony: It sure was. Billy lost your car keys on the beach and it took us hours to find them.

Joey: My goodness! Yes, I remember that! And then someone pickpocketed you and stole your wallet with all your money and credit cards.

Tony: Yes, luckily, I was able to reach Samantha and she wired us some money. Otherwise, we would have had to wash dishes.

Joey: Yes, she really saved us, didn’t she? Wow, we are really old. That was before they had bank machines everywhere.

Tony: Yes, I guess that really does show our age.

Joey: Even after Samantha sent us the money, we didn’t learn our lesson though. That night at the beach was crazy.

Tony: Yes, I remember it clearly. We had a huge bonfire. Billy drank too much and puked everywhere. It was disgusting.

Joey: I guess that will always be remembered as the craziest trip ever.

Tony: Absolutely. Without a doubt!
