ESL Conversation about Fears
Samantha: [Screaming]
Tony: What’s the matter Sam?
Samantha: There is a huge spider on the wall.
Tony: It’s harmless. It’s a daddy-long-legs. It’s a sign of spring.
Samantha: I’ve seen better signs Tony. You know that I am terrified of spiders.
Tony: Yes, I do know that, but there are much worse things to be frightened of than spiders.
Samantha: I can’t stand all insects. They creep me out.
Tony: It’s no big deal. I will kill it.
Samantha: Oh, thank you Tony.
Tony: Why do they creep you out so much?
Samantha: They have really long legs, and they are scary looking.
Tony: Okay, got it! You are almost as scared of spiders as you are of heights.
Samantha: Yes, I hate high places too. It doesn’t bother me to be on the top floor of a high building, but it freaks me out if the place isn’t enclosed.
Tony: Oh, I know Sam. Do you remember the time that we went hiking to the top of mount Shoehorn?
Samantha: Whatever Tony. You are not much better when it comes to needles.
Tony: You are definitely correct there. I can’t stand needles.
Samantha: The look on your face is always priceless when we go to the doctor’s office.
Tony: Yes, I definitely never look forward to going there.
